When it comes to DSLR photography, one of the most overlooked factors is that you can make mistakes and fix them on the spot. If you really want to become a great photographer one of the best things that you can do is take a lot of pictures. When you’re out there on the field make sure that you’re pressing the shutter button a lot. This will allow you to get the frame that you’ve been looking for inside of your head. One of the great things about technology today is the fact that we can make cheap mistakes.
Back in the days photographers had to develop film and watch their mistakes in agonizing pain. They would spend a lot of money on rolls only to see that their pictures came out looking like caca. Today however, we are spoiled little brats that can delete pictures on the fly. We could also play and experiment with settings so we can see changes in real time without having to develop any film at all.
1) Close your eyes and try to visualize the frame!
When all else fails, sometime it’s great to just close your eyes, relax, and remember why you are behind the camera. It’s to catch, captivate, and create! Remember, in order to be successful photographer you must be very creative and know what you want!
2) After you open your eyes take a look around and move, don’t just stay in one spot!
Try not to be a lazy photographer that doesn’t like to move… those are the ones that suck really bad! whenever you are in a cool spot, try to look at different angles and see if you can find some unique locations within a location. One of the main focuses that you should be doing is looking for great spots to create one of a kind images!
3) Try something extremely strange!
And finally, in order to get really cool DSLR photography shots you’re going to have to try something unique and strange. Mess around with your camera’s settings, shoot in manual mode and have your subjects do crazy funky things. I guarantee you’ll be surprised with what you get… Think outside of the box!
