On Thursday 8th, 2011 at precisely 3:35pm the power went out in San Diego county. Over 1.4 million customers were left without power. So what did we all learn this day?

What did a Rolling Black Out teach me?

Be prepared and don’t take the little things for granted

On Thursday 8th, 2011 at precisely 3:35pm the power went out in San Diego county. Over 1.4 million customers were left without power. This means that millions felt the impact of this historic day. Just by witnessing the people I came across I instantly saw panicking and a sense of disconnection.

Multiple accidents were reported and everyone’s frustration was getting the better of them. It seems that a majority of people take what we got for granted. In some cases, people can’t function without technology. If shit were to hit the fan nationwide you can instantly see what would become of people.

What everyone should take away from this crazy day is the following:

Be Prepared for the Worst:

Many people didn’t see this coming because the blackout truly came out of nowhere. People’s gas tanks weren’t full, batteries weren’t charged, and water bottles were not stocked.

To be honest one can never truly be prepared but at times like this you may want to reevaluate your “Plan B!” if this is the case then you should try to always be prepared by having the bare bone essentials checklist. I’m no expert so you may want to leave some comments below that can help you be prepared for an emergency.

• stock up on water (you can never have too much)
• have a flashlight and some extra batteries handy (light it up)
• make sure you have food that doesn’t perish (mmmm spam)
• get in touch with your close peeps and discuss “the plan”
• never take on the situation alone (work together)

Cherish the Little Things:

Next time everything is working and you have the wonderful magic also known as electricity stop and take a moment to be thankful. Some people do not have the technology that we have so be appreciative. Without electricity almost nothing can be done.

I also bet that since the power went out many people were doing things that they haven’t done in a while. Up until this point I bet people forgot about the mighty pen & paper as well as the handy candle. Also, I heard that people actually finally gave themselves the time that they deserved.

• some families went to the beach to beat the heat
• some couples went to watch the sunset
• others finally started reading that book they’ve been putting off
• and some took the time to look up at the stars

Regardless of what dark times that your going through (no pun intended), there are always little things that you can cherish and do. Don”t let events like this dictate your life. I know it will impact the he’ll out of it but don’t forget that you can control what events and things mean to you… So stay calm!!!

Why should I have a Website?

How can I make more money with one?

You’re probably asking yourself right now, why the heck should I even have a website? You may even be thinking you’re doing just fine. I’m sorry to burst your bubble but right now we are at an age where technology is moving at a very fast pace. Fortunately for you, right now you can get away with not having a website. However,in the near future, if you don’t have a site you’ll be toast.

Here are 3 simple solid reasons why you need a Website ASAP!

1) Every one is doing it. If you don’t get one you’ll be left behind.
If you don’t keep up with the trends and movement I guarantee that you will be left in the dust and shown no mercy. It’s a dog eat dog world out there and if you can’t compete then get out of the kitchen. I’m pretty sure that you want to be successful when it comes to your business so why not do what is necessary to make your company grow to the next level. Everyone is finally starting to realize the importance of a website and you should too. Stop putting it off, pick up the phone and get a website built today!.

2) This is one of the most cost effective ways to market today.
When it comes to the web, the Internet is truly king when it comes to return on investment. On average websites usually start around $400 just to get an online presence. Some people spend literally thousands of dollars on their site. You on the other hand are looking for someone reliable, affordable, to help you get on the web as painless and easily as possible… Right? If this is the case you can get in touch with me so that I can help you build your online presence. A website can cost you less then your next print campaign and can get you much better results.

3) This will increase your Customer Service dramatically.
Imagine if you had someone to answer your questions 24/7. Well, with the website now you can do this and make yourself seem larger than what you really are. This will also help you direct customers to the right place and answer their questions without making many phone calls. If you plan your website correctly it can serve as a place to get all the information needed to move onto the next step.

Want to find out the best easiest DSLR Photography Tip?

Fix your mistakes in 3 Easy steps.

When it comes to DSLR photography, one of the most overlooked factors is that you can make mistakes and fix them on the spot. If you really want to become a great photographer one of the best things that you can do is take a lot of pictures. When you’re out there on the field make sure that you’re pressing the shutter button a lot. This will allow you to get the frame that you’ve been looking for inside of your head. One of the great things about technology today is the fact that we can make cheap mistakes.

Back in the days photographers had to develop film and watch their mistakes in agonizing pain. They would spend a lot of money on rolls only to see that their pictures came out looking like caca. Today however, we are spoiled little brats that can delete pictures on the fly. We could also play and experiment with settings so we can see changes in real time without having to develop any film at all.

When you notice that you are messing up in photography try the following 3 steps:

1) Close your eyes and try to visualize the frame!
When all else fails, sometime it’s great to just close your eyes, relax, and remember why you are behind the camera. It’s to catch, captivate, and create! Remember, in order to be successful photographer you must be very creative and know what you want!

2) After you open your eyes take a look around and move, don’t just stay in one spot!
Try not to be a lazy photographer that doesn’t like to move… those are the ones that suck really bad! whenever you are in a cool spot, try to look at different angles and see if you can find some unique locations within a location. One of the main focuses that you should be doing is looking for great spots to create one of a kind images!

3) Try something extremely strange!
And finally, in order to get really cool DSLR photography shots you’re going to have to try something unique and strange. Mess around with your camera’s settings, shoot in manual mode and have your subjects do crazy funky things. I guarantee you’ll be surprised with what you get… Think outside of the box!

Today, the consumer truly has a great deal of power at their fingertips. One bad experience can ruin your business forever. What are you going to do about it?

Their are millions of reviews, complains, testimonials, and rants. If you have your very own business, what are you doing about this? Well if you haven’t got a clue I have three great tips that you can use to start taking control over your business.

1) Tell the truth and be honest

If you mess up and something goes wrong make sure that you apologize quickly and sincerely. The worst thing that you can do is let go time go by without resolving anything. This really pisses people off and allows them time to tell other people about their terrible experience. The sooner you squash the beef the better off you’ll be. If you do it good enough, you may even keep them as a loyal customer.

2) Make sure your consistent with your company

Speak the same way like you would if you where marketing. Don’t conflict with what your company stands for. If you start showing people too many faces for a business, they don’t know which one to follow. Keep your message clear, concise, and to the point. As the famous saying goes… Keep It Simple Stupid!

3) Go above and beyond and help turn a negative to a positive

For instance, if you own a restaurant, offer them and their party a next ones on us coupon or something. Be creative and always keep them before you. You may think that you pay the bills, but who really puts the mula in your pocket? YOUR CUSTOMERS! Sometimes its good to put your ego aside and make it work for the customer.

Everyone knows that its more expensive to get new customers then to maintain existing ones. If you let too many complainers slip through the cracks, it could get real ugly.

I’ll get down to the nitty gritty because I know that you have a lot of things to do. Having hat said, the most important part of search engine optimization is the title tag. For most people who don’t know how to optimize their website, the most common mistake that people make is leaving the page name static.

What I mean by static is that they leave their home page tag as HOME or their contact page name as CONTACT. Let me ask you a real quick qestion, when you Google, when do you search “about us” as a a keyword? Thats what I thought, never right? So, when you are creating your next web page or have someone currently working on it, make sure that all of your title tags are optimized for Google.

Too many people today focus on things that really aren’t that important. When it comes to living a healthy stress free life you need to be able to control what is going on with YOURSELF in the present. They say that “Perception is reality” and I strongly believe that is very true. So next time you start freaking out over nothing make your brain pause and see the true reality. You may not be able to control things externally but you can control things internally.

Remember that the most important ingredient towards staying positive is being grateful. Many people don’t have the opportunities that you have so always keep that in mind.

To be honest, in order to become a unique photographer and get great pictures, it really doesn’t take much. The only things that you have to know are, practice makes perfect, and shoot in manual mode. Many people like to shoot only in automatic mode and don’t really understand how photography works because of that. Instead of relying on your camera to do all the work why not make your camera work for you the way you want it to. I challenge you to shoot in manual mode and try out some unique settings. Just remember the shutter speed controls how fast the shutter will open & close. The F value controls the depth of field and how much light will be let into the camera. And finally, the ISO is what tells the camera how sensitive to light it is. The only reason I am the photographer that I am today, is the fact that I shot in manual mode for a couple of months. It was a very painful process but well worth it. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new today.
